Extracurricular activities
There are many things that you can that could help you shape your future. Here is an assortment of ideas from past student experiences:
- Volunteer at outdoor ed camp for children. You will learn patience, teaching skills, community organization, and make friends across many groups
- Volunteer at a faith-based or community-based organization. You might end up setting up websites, assisting with cleanup, or answering emails and calls. These are also good sources of letters of recommendation down the road. Please be earnest in your endeavors.
- Take a class in something that is for sheer satisfaction of your curiosity! Learn to play an instrument, bake pies, kayak, coding, hiking Mt. Diablo, or learn CPR
- Do you have relatives in the healthcare field overseas? If you are travelling to see them this summer, enquire if you can volunteer at a clinic to gain some insights into the medical field.
- Part time job: The best way to learn responsibility, people skills and time management.
